Celebration of Empowering Businesses.
For 20 years, GNEC has championed New Jersey’s micro entrepreneurs by expanding access to capital, strengthening back-office operations, and connecting business owners to the training and support they need to grow. We celebrate every milestone our clients achieve and every dream turned into a thriving business.
20 Years In The Making
For two decades, GNEC has served as Newark’s community-rooted CDFI, providing loans and comprehensive business support services to entrepreneurs traditionally overlooked by mainstream lenders. We were founded to close the gap for underserved and underbanked business owners across New Jersey, meeting people where they are and looking at the whole picture, not just a credit score.
Our support strengthens back-office functions, builds confidence, and helps entrepreneurs do what they do best for their communities. Through capital, guidance, and strategic connections, we help business owners better understand their finances and make informed decisions that drive long-term growth.

GNEC Timeline

Letter From Our Exec.
Dear Friends, Partners, and Supporters,
As GNEC celebrates our 20th anniversary, I am filled with deep gratitude for all we have accomplished together—and even greater excitement for what lies ahead. For two decades, GNEC has remained steadfast in its mission to expand opportunity for underserved and underbanked business owners across New Jersey, with our roots firmly planted in the vibrant community of Newark, NJ.
Since our founding, we have made over 400 loans and deployed more than $4.83 million to entrepreneurs who have historically been excluded from mainstream financial systems. These loans represent more than capital — they represent belief, opportunity, and the chance for small business owners to build stability, growth, and generational equity. Each one of these businesses strengthens neighborhoods, creates jobs, and contributes to a more inclusive local economy.
