The Gateway New Economy Council is a group of
volunteers in the Eastern Panhandle Region of West
Virginia dedicated to serving as a catalyst to ensure
the region will have the opportunity to participate fully
in, and benefit from, the “New Economy” of the
twenty-first century.
We achieve this by:
- Offering seminars, forums & community learning experiences that create awareness of the opportunities
and challenges of new economy growth.
- Developing effective partnerships with educational institutions and businesses in order to leverage their impact and influence on new economy growth.
- Articulating and communicating to key state officials a compelling vision of the region's opportunities and challenges in knowledge-based economic development.
- Serving as a catalyst by assisting our local development authorities and other interested groups to bring about technology-based job growth.

Leading Business & Economic Development Organizations Release New Study:
IMPACT: Gaming in Jefferson County
Tuesday, November 4, 2009 – Three of Jefferson County’s leading business organizations plan to announce the release of a new study, “Impact: Gaming in Jefferson County” tomorrow, November 4th. The Gateway New Economy Council, The Jefferson County Development Authority and the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce joined forces with Charles Town Races & Slots to study the real economic impacts of gaming revenues in Jefferson County.
Walt Pellish, Vice-President of the Board of Directors, said, "Our interest in undertaking this study was to offer an independent analysis that would help the Jefferson County voters make a fully informed voting decision. These three organizations came together, not to endorse table games, but to provide specific information that would educate voters. We each work daily to enhance the Jefferson County economy landscape. We have a vested interest in a strong economic foundation. So we undertook a study that examines how Jefferson County residents actually benefit today, as well as how that impact could change if the table games referendum passes."
